Charlie Arnot’s career in public relations, communications and journalism has been quite diverse. In addition to consulting with leading companies and associations on issues management, communications and public affairs, he co-authors a weekly column for Feedstuffs, the nations leading agri-business newspaper and speaks internationally on industry issues.
Prior to founding CMA he was vice president of communications and public affairs for Premium Standard Farms, responsible for all internal and external communication, government relations and issues management.
Earlier in his career he worked for a public relations agency, was an award winning radio journalist and worked in video and film, including “The War Room”, the 1992 documentary on the first Clinton campaign for President. Kerry spent 23 years on active duty with the United States Air Force as a personnel technician and manager. After his retirement, Kerry worked at the Kansas City Star and at Premium Standard Farms as an Executive Assistant. He joined CMA in 2006.Kerry’s military recognitions included Personnel Manager of the Year. He was also recognized by the Partnership for Children for his management of the Hooked On Books program while at the Kansas City Star. With more than 15 years of experience in public relations counseling, Jim helps clients anticipate, prepare for and respond to potential situations that could prove harmful to their overall reputation or threaten their freedom to operate. His experiences include guiding clients through major product recalls, helping clients respond to external threats, and helping clients navigate anti-trust allegations. Terry served for 16 years as the Executive Vice President of the Indiana Pork Producers Council and the Indiana Pork Advocacy Coalition, including public policy experience at the state and national levels. He has also held positions with the U.S. Grains Council in Washington, D.C. and Vienna, Austria and with Vigortone Ag Products. Terry has additional experience with association development and management in more than 20 years of consulting with churches and other not-for-profits at the local, state, national and international levels. He is a Certified Association Executive (CAE), a member of the American Society of Association Executives, past officer of the Indiana Society of Association Executives, former President and board member of the Indiana Livestock Alliance, and a former instructor with Dale Carnegie Training. Terry is a graduate of Purdue University, which recognized him in 2005 with their Distinguished Animal Science Alumni Award. Carol joined the CMA staff in 2007 with more than 13 years of experience in agricultural communications, public relations and food marketing. Carol was formerly Marketing Manager for Premium Standard Farms where she supervised new product launches. She also worked in Communications and Public Affairs where she implemented employee and public relations events. Carol has served on the National Pork Board and the Missouri Pork Association boards of directors. She is the past president of the University of Missouri Ag Alumni Association and currently serves on the Governing Board of the Mizzou Alumni Association. She is a graduate of the Missouri's Ag Leadership of Tomorrow Class IX and a past member of its board of directors. Alise Kowalski brings public policy and national media experience to the CMA team. As Communications Director for the House Agriculture Committee in Washingon, DC during the 2008 Farm Bill reauthorization process she traveled across the country gathering feedback from farmers and ranchers. Alise has developed messaging and media strategy for a variety of agricultural issues including the farm bill, food safety, animal agriculture, commodity futures, conservation and natural resources, forestry, farm labor, international trade and energy. She has also worked extensively with national, wire, trade, and local media as well as associations, producer groups, and government agencies. Jana McGuire brings wide-ranging experience in video/audio production, writing, media relations, media training, event planning and crisis communications management to the CMA team. She is a veteran journalist and communications expert with background in broadcast news and public relations. After stints in radio and television news early in her career, she joined the Office of Public Relations at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). She has done freelance work for such clients as ABC and NBC News, and "America's Most Wanted." Jana hosted an award-winning news program on Nebraska Educational Television and served as an adjunct faculty member teaching professional communication for the UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications. Jana earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Early in her career, Beth Anne worked in Washington, DC as a legislative aide and for a leading agricultural lobbying firm. She was Director of Public Affairs for the North Carolina Pork Council for six years and has been a member of the CMA team since 2004. Beth Anne holds a Bachelor’s in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. Randa was formerly self-employed in the building trades for several years. Gary joined CMA in 2005.Gary holds a BS in Agricultural Economics from Northeast Missouri State University and is an alumnus of Missouri’s Ag Leadership of Tomorrow program.
